What Are You Blogging About?

Nearly once a week (or at least it feels that often), I hear someone say they are thinking about starting a blog. What I don’t hear is what they plan to blog about.
If you’ve decided to take the time to create and maintain a blog, I would assume you have a purpose in mind. However, that assumption has clearly proved to uphold that old saying, which I won’t repeat here because I often struggle to find a blogger’s purpose in their articles.
I say this because I’ve noted that a good number of blogs out there appear to have no more purpose than for the author of that blog to sound off about their mood that particular day.
Blogging is not the same as journaling and should not be treated as such—not if you expect to gain a substantial readership base and/or wish to make money while enjoying the effort you put into it at the same time.
Journaling is, by and large, defined as: a record of experiences, ideas, or reflections kept regularly for private use. So, if your purpose of blogging is in truth a form of journaling, then you should expect no more than a handful of followers and no earnings gained for your time. In other words, you are blogging more for yourself than for an audience.
On the other hand, blogging is, by and large, defined as: a regular feature appearing as part of an online publication that typically relates to a particular topic and consists of articles and personal commentary by one or more authors.
Those who truly comprehend the difference blog for the purpose of reaching an audience interested in the same subject. Some of us blog for this reason alone, while some hope to also make money through paid subscribers. You could also be blogging as a way to sell yourself or your business by, in a linear way, promoting your products or services.
So, if you’re considering starting a blog or perhaps revamping one that you’ve already started, begin by asking yourself why you want to blog. What will others be interested in hearing about, and what subject will you enjoy talking about? Lastly, what is your ultimate goal?
I strongly recommend that you keep that enjoyment I mentioned in mind, because if you don’t have a passion for what you’re putting so much effort into, that lack of enthusiasm will likely show, and that will lead to small numbers both in audience and profit.
Still want to blog? Good. Allow me to offer you 63+ Blog Niche Ideas that will hopefully help you find what best fits your purpose.

Clearly, there are many more niche ideas I could have mentioned, but I ran out of room, hence the "Add to These" list in yellow/red.
If you've got a blog already active or you're thinking about starting one, I'd love to have you tell us: What Are You Blogging About?
